Our Work
We help schools protect the cognitive work that turns kids into thinkers.
We work to answer the question: what needs to be true for AI to strengthen learning without replacing student thinking?

The Moment
Districts are being handed answers before anyone helps them ask the question.
Boards want to know the AI plan. Teachers are already using it, some well, some in ways that strip the rigor out of a lesson. Every vendor claims evidence, and state guidance keeps shifting.
So districts are buying and piloting in an evidence vacuum, at speed, in public.
800+ K-12 AI studies reviewed; about twenty were rigorous enough to say anything about learning.
Stanford Accelerator for Learning20 student-facing AI products studied across sixteen school systems; none were ready to carry the work of teaching on their own.

#100DistrictConversations
The difference is almost never the tool. It's the conditions already in place.
In more than a hundred conversations with district leaders, we saw the same AI tool succeed in one district and stall in the next. So we help districts map their conditions, pilot against evidence, and build the capacity to scale what works.
What We Believe
The thing worth protecting is the cognitive work.
Learning happens when a student does the thinking, not when they watch it happen or receive an answer. Remove that struggle and you remove the learning, however impressive the output looks.
This isn't a position we adopted for the AI era. Our Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Pedagogy framework made the case in 2021: compliance-driven schooling produces dependent thinkers, and it hits marginalized students hardest. AI didn't create that problem. It accelerated it.

For 16 years, we’ve helped schools and districts support students’ thinking.
Now that AI has arrived, our core promise remains:
Part one
Protect the thinking that is happening.
Part two
Build it where it wasn’t.
How We Work
The hard part isn't finding another answer. It's knowing which questions to ask first.
We start from what a district already has, not what it lacks, and draw a clear line through the pressures every district is facing.
What you bring
Instructional vision
What you're already trying to do for kids.
Policies and procedures
What's written down today, and where the gaps are.
Change leadership
Your systems for building consensus and coaching adults.
Team capacity
The people who can support implementation.
The pressures you face
What you leave with
A roadmap
A shared vision, guidance and guardrails, and an implementation plan your team built.
Evidence
Short-cycle pilots with success defined up front, and a decision you can defend: iterate, stop, or replicate.
Scale that sticks
What worked, rolled out district-wide without depending on the original volunteers.
Each year, more of the work is driven by your team. By year three, the practices are theirs.
